Twinkling Stars is a sparkling piece that is limited to the higher black keys. Black key playing is a great approach for pre-readers as it encourages the hand position to be curved and relaxed. It can be played with the pedal depressed throughout to give the outer space effect or using the pedal markings as indicated on the score. The shift in melody from right hand to left hand opens students’ ears to softer accompaniments so that the melody can sing through. It is ideal for recitals, festivals, or adjudications.
