Description
Teenage Dreams was inspired by a melody (at 23 seconds in the recording) that my brother, Bob, composed when he was a teenager. He never completed the song and I asked his permission to compose a piece around his motif which is why we are both listed as composers on this. The intro is very much in the style of jazz with swing eighths and a happy tempo. My brother’s teenage melody is from measure 15 to 24 and continues the swing rhythm. The interlude in the middle is nostalgic and slow, with straight eighths. The accelerando following this introspective section leads back to the main theme with elements of the intro interspersed. This was a very fun piece to compose and would make a lively finale piece on a piano recital.
